Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in eighteenth-century France, the etagere is a piece of furniture featuring open tiers designed to display ornaments, books, or small objects. By the early twentieth century, slender metal and leather variations became popular as light accent tables for modern living spaces.

Tables from this period frequently feature tubular or solid brass frames coated with protective lacquer to prevent rapid oxidisation. The shelf surfaces were often constructed from timber inserts finished with gold-tooled leather or clear glass.

Authentic period examples display signs of age such as minor patination under lacquered surfaces, fine hand-tooled geometric patterns on the leather inserts, and screwed or finial-secured joinery rather than modern welding.

A symmetrical pair works effectively when flanking a sofa or upholstered bed frame. Combining polished metal frames with soft linen upholstery or timber accents creates a balanced contrast of textures.

Dust the brass framing using a soft, dry lint-free cloth, avoiding abrasive metal polishes if a protective lacquer is present. Clean and preserve the leather shelf inserts with a specialised leather balm applied sparingly.
