Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1850s.

Another extraordinary feature about this example is the totally original interior, untouched. The interior of the lid has the original mirror which opens to reveal a document compartment underneath; it is here that the original makers label can be found " Made by J.R. Pearce , 77 Cornhill, London ".

The paper and silk interior has retained it's bright colouring protected away from the sun and light. A few spots of wear and a shrinkage crack to the secondary timber of the underside, quite normal and insignificant but mentioned for accuracy. A very fine old grain hairline to top.

Complete with working key, this is a must-have box for the sewing devotee or box collector. Excellent condition, measuring 12" x 9" x 4 3/4".
