A fine quality Victorian pedestal desk dating from circa 1880, constructed in oak with beautifully figured burr walnut drawer fronts throughout.
The desk is fitted with an attractive burgundy hide writing surface with gilt and blind-tooled decoration, above a central frieze drawer and six graduating pedestal drawers, providing excellent storage. The oak-lined drawers are traditionally constructed with hand-cut dovetail joints and retain their original turned walnut knobs. The central drawer is lockable and is supplied with two keys.
The sides and rear are fully panelled, allowing the desk to stand freely within a room if desired. The rich burr walnut veneers display outstanding natural figuring, contrasting beautifully with the warm oak framework.
A handsome and practical Victorian desk, equally suited to a study, library or home office.
Presented in very good antique condition with a pleasing colour and patina. The hide writing surface has light age-related wear consistent
... with careful use, adding to the character of the piece.
