Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A pendule a lelephant is an 18th-century French mantel clock design where the clock drum rests upon the back of a patinated bronze elephant. Popularised during the Louis XV period, these timepieces often feature gilded Rococo scrollwork and Chinoiserie figures.

These clocks are primarily constructed using cast bronze that is either patinated for a dark finish or fire-gilded to create ormolu. The clock face usually features an enamelled dial with Roman numerals and cast brass movement components.

Authentic pieces feature asymmetrical Rococo scrollwork, high-quality casting with hand-chased details, and heavy gilded or patinated finishes. Movement plates often bear French maker stamps or serial numbers on the back, along with white enamel dials.

Place the clock as a focal point on a marble fireplace mantelpiece, sideboard, or executive desk. It pairs well with minimalist backdrops, classic gilded mirrors, and dark wood panelling.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a soft bristle brush for intricate scrollwork. Avoid harsh chemical polishes or water, as liquid can compromise the original fire-gilded finish and dull patinated metal.
