Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Coco de Mer vessel is a decorative object or traditional kashkul crafted from the hollowed outer husk of the Lodoicea maldivica palm seed, native to the Seychelles. Historically prized as rare natural wonders, these large double-coconut shells were often carved, polished, and converted into baskets, bowls, or ceremonial objects.

These pieces are crafted from the naturally dense, fibrous shell of the double coconut nut. Skilled artisans hollow out the seed, polish the exterior to reveal the deep brown grain, and frequently add hand-carved geometric incised borders, integral handles, or decorative rim patterns.

Authentic items exhibit the distinctive twin-lobed form unique to the Lodoicea maldivica palm seed, a heavy natural fibrous density, and authentic age wear along hand-carved edges. Genuine historic examples show smooth patination from handling rather than uniform modern machine-carved finishes.

Style a carved Coco de Mer shell as a focal point on a library shelf, sideboard, or mantelpiece paired with dark wood furniture, leather-bound books, and brass accents to complement a classic cabinet of curiosities aesthetic.

Keep organic shell specimens out of direct sunlight and away from central heating sources to prevent drying or cracking. Clean gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a light coat of natural beeswax polish periodically to nourish the organic material and preserve its lustrous patina.
