Artisan Antiques has dated this piece to the 1900s.

The box is of a substantial size and the cylindrical shape of the box allows for it to be amply decorated with an array of techniques and motifs.
The top lid features a wonderful dotted border on the edge, followed by a stunning sunburst guilloché engine-turning in typical French style and grace.

The entire side and circumference of the box feature further engine turning with a two banded border of floral and laurel motifs.
The interior is also fully silver gilt which acts as a layer of protection from the contents inside oxidising/tarnishing the silver.

Overall, a stunning piece of fine French 19th-century silver gilt ware, ideal for box collections or as a spectacular one-off accenting piece in a collection or interior setting. Furthermore, owing to its versatile shape and size, aside from snuff/tobacco, it could also be used to hold sweets, mints, medication or even as a small jewel box.

French hallmarks are present on the inner edge of the box and lid with 'Minerve 1' (950 silver standard for export).
