1940 - 1960
Description

Gents 9ct gold Longines wrist watch, 1964.

The watch has a 17-jewel calibre 19.4 hand-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is fully signed and it has the serial number 12,794,076 which dates it back to 1965.

The watch measures 32mm diameter excluding the later winding crown and the lugs. The case is 9 carat gold and there are hallmarks inside the case back for London 1964 together with a maker’s mark for David Shackman & Sons, instrument makers and manufacturing jewellers of Chesham, Buckinghamshire. There is also the name Baume, they were the importers of Longines watches to the UK and the Commonwealth. The case is in good condition and is free from any inscriptions.

The lens is in lovely condition (some natural light reflection showing in the photos).

The signed dial is in its original finish with original hands and a subsidiary seconds dial.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the mid-20th century, Longines produced slim, refined dress watches characterised by minimal dials, precise Swiss manual-wind movements, and precious metal cases designed for formal attire.

Watches from this era frequently featured solid 9ct or 18ct gold cases, acrylic crystals, metallic dials with applied baton hour markers, and leather straps secured by traditional pin buckles.

Authenticity can be confirmed by inspecting the movement serial number, checking for hallmarked gold casing, ensuring correct dial typography, and verifying manufacturer markings on the inner case back.

A classic gold wristwatch with a leather strap seamlessly complements formal tailoring, black-tie ensembles, or smart-casual attire, adding historical craftsmanship to contemporary dress.

Mechanical watches require regular servicing by a qualified horologist every three to five years, protection from moisture and magnetic fields, and gentle cleaning with a soft microfibre cloth.
