South turkmenistan or north afghanistan,early 20th century.

A sub tribe weaving within the ersari turkmen group called the kizil ayak.

Very bold geometric motifs on a camel/ivory ground colour.

Very lustrous dense hard wearing pile.

Hand washed & de-dusted.last images.

All over even rich mohair velvety wool pile. Even fringes with dark blue side cords. Small pile loss left side bottom edge,imaged.

Size is 4 foot 4 inches by 3 foot 2 inches. 133cm X 98cm. At widest points. Fringes not measured in size. All woollen hand knotted construction.

Kizil Ayak rugs are hand-woven textiles produced by the Kizil Ayak sub-tribe of the Turkmen people, primarily in Northern Afghanistan and Turkmenistan. They are distinguished by their geometric gol (medallion) patterns, deep madder red dyes, contrasting ivory fields, and high-density hand-knotted wool construction.

Traditional Turkmen rugs are constructed primarily from hand-spun sheep wool for both the pile and warp/weft foundation. Natural vegetable and mineral dyes, particularly madder root for reds and indigo for blues, were historically utilised to produce deep, long-lasting hues.
