Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A drum table is a circular table with a deep apron, often containing drawers around its perimeter, supported by a central pedestal or splayed legs. Popularised in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, these pieces were originally designed for writing, administrative tasks, or as central parlour features.

Early 19th-century examples were predominantly constructed using dense hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, or native fruitwoods, often embellished with burr maple or walnut veneers. Construction techniques featured dovetailed drawers, solid brass castors, and turned central supports with hand-cut joinery.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-sawn secondary timbers, original brass castors with period wear, and subtle timber shrinkage along the circular top over time. Examining the drawer construction for hand-cut dovetails and period-correct lock mechanisms also assists in dating.

A drum table functions effectively as a focal point in a spacious entry hall, drawing room, or open-plan living area. Styling with minimal ceramics, structured floral arrangements, or sculptural objects balances the historical detail of the woodwork.

Preservation requires maintaining consistent humidity levels to prevent veneer lifting or timber warping. Regular dusting with a soft microfibre cloth and occasional application of high-grade beeswax protects the natural patina while avoiding chemical polishes that degrade historic finishes.
