Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Vesta cases, also known as match safes, were developed in the mid-nineteenth century to carry friction matches, which were named after Vesta, the Roman goddess of the hearth. Popular through the Edwardian era, these portable containers prevented accidental ignition and kept matches dry before the widespread adoption of modern lighters.

Vesta cases were manufactured using a wide range of materials, most commonly sterling silver, Continental silver standards such as 800 or 900 grade, brass, nickel, and gunmetal. Interior surfaces were often gilded with gold wash to prevent tarnish and corrosion caused by match chemicals.

Authentic Continental pieces generally feature hallmark stamps indicating fineness, such as 800 or 835, alongside maker or tax marks specific to European regions. Construction details such as hand-chased relief, repousse decoration, and integrated match strikers along the base or rim also indicate genuine age.

Small metalwork antiques serve well as decorative desk accessories, display cabinet curios, or tray accents on a coffee table or sideboard. Grouping varied silver pocket accessories together creates an organised, textured vignette in a contemporary home.

Clean silver surfaces gently using a soft, non-abrasive cotton cloth and specialized silver polish, avoiding harsh dipping chemicals that strip intentional patination from recessed areas. Store pieces in low-humidity environments to minimise tarnish.
