Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Imari porcelain, named after the port from which it was exported, is characterised by its distinctive palette combining underglaze cobalt blue with overglaze iron red and gilded detailing. During the Meiji period (18681912), Japanese artisans produced these wares with refined technical precision and intricate floral or mythological motifs tailored for international appreciation.

Imari wares are crafted from kaolin ceramic clay, fired at high temperatures to produce porcelain. The design begins with an underglaze cobalt blue paint applied directly to the unglazed body, followed by a clear glaze firing, after which overglaze iron-red enamels and gold leaf detailing are painted on top and fired at lower kiln temperatures.

Authentic Imari porcelain typically features visible hand-painted variations, subtle kiln-firing spur marks on the reverse, and rich underglaze blue paired with raised enamel pigments. Authentic pieces often show gentle surface wear to the gilded edges and minor potting irregularities consistent with historical hand production.

Imari porcelain pieces function effectively as accent art on a display stand, mounted within a wall gallery, or placed at the centre of a table. The contrasting cobalt blue and terracotta red tones complement neutral backgrounds as well as rich dark wood furniture.

To protect overglaze enamels and original gilding, clean Imari porcelain gently by hand using lukewarm water and a mild detergent. Avoid abrasive sponges, chemical cleansers, dishwashers, or prolonged soaking, and handle the surface carefully.
