Imari porcelain is a style of Japanese export ceramic originating from the Arita region in Saga Prefecture, exported through the port of Imari. It is defined by its characteristic palette combining underglaze cobalt blue with overglaze iron red, green enamel, and gilded decoration.

Traditional Imari ware is crafted from high-kaolin ceramic clay fired at high temperatures to achieve a hard white body. Underglaze cobalt blue details are applied before the main glaze firing, after which overglaze enamel colours and gold detailing are applied and fired at lower temperatures.
