A rare and lovely Early 19th Century Antique Georgian Gaudy Welsh Porcelain Teapot, decorated in the busy and colourful "Oriental / Coloured Hexagon" pattern. The body of typical 1830's design with gently rounded panels raised upon a round moulded foot, the overall scheme embellished with now softly faded gilding, N.B. :- Some minor old discolouration and small old hairline for which see Image No. 6. Unmarked ~ Ex A. & P. Todd Collection.

Gaudy Welsh refers to 19th-century British earthenware pottery decorated with vivid hand-painted patterns, influenced by Japanese Imari designs. Produced primarily in Wales and Staffordshire between 1820 and 1860, these pieces feature cobalt blue, rust-orange, and metallic lustre accents.

These teapots were crafted from opaque earthenware or ironstone, moulded into fluted or geometric shapes. Decorators applied underglaze cobalt blue before adding hand-painted overglaze enamels and metallic lustre highlights.
