Rare Antique English Silver Plated Wine Coasters with Handles C.1880

Description

A fabulous and really unusual pair of English wine coasters dating to the Victorian era, around 1880 / 1890. I have never seen another pair of coasters with swing handles, the only reason I can come up with, is that they doubled as some kind of bon-bon or fruit dish.

My silversmith (who has professionally cleaned both the silver plate and woods) verifies that these handles are original to the piece and not a later addition. He too hasn't come across a pair of these before, they were perhaps a unique commission.

Excellent condition, measuring 6 1/2" in diameter including the decorative cast rim x 2" tall or 6" tall to top of handle.
