We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A cwpwrdd gwydr is a traditional Welsh two-piece cupboard featuring a glazed upper display section atop a solid wooden base cabinet with drawers and cupboards. Typically dating from the late 18th to early 19th centuries, these pieces were crafted regionally to display ceramics and provide household storage.

These cupboards were predominantly constructed from native Welsh oak, featuring field-panelled doors, hand-cut dovetail joints, mortise and tenon joinery, and hand-blown glass panes. Secondary timbers such as pine or deal were frequently used for drawer linings and backboards.

Authentic pieces exhibit evidence of period hand tools, including saw marks on rear panels, irregular hand-cut dovetails, and original iron or brass hardware with light surface oxidisation. Regional characteristics often include kite-shaped inlay escutcheons and distinct proportions typical of Welsh carpentry.

Position the piece as a focal point in a dining room, kitchen, or living area to showcase ceramics, glassware, or books. Combining the dark timber with modern neutral wall shades balances the visual weight of the wood while highlighting the craftsmanship.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the wood finish. Clean glass panes using a mild glass cleaner applied directly to a cloth rather than sprayed onto the timber frame to prevent moisture damage.
