Antique Doxa pocket watch / travel clock, Mappin & Webb.

The watch has a good quality Swiss stem-winding movement by Doxa which is working nicely. The movement carries the brevet (patent) number 33836 which relates to a 1907 patent in the name of Georges Ducommun, founder of Doxa. The patent was for a watch movement with a longer than usual running time, in this case, an 8-day movement (so it only needs winding on the same day each week).

The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which has a lot of scratching.

The watch measures 65mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is nickel and it is in good condition.

The watch has a thick glass lens with bevelled edge, all in lovely condition.

The dial is signed with the name of the original retailer, Mappin & Webb, 156-162 Oxford Street, W (London). There is a faint hairline running from the centre towards number 4.

The watch is housed in a sterling silver and dark green Moroccan leather case. The silver is hallmarked for Birmingham 1910 with a silversmith’s mark for Elkington & Co. The case has classic Edwardian design and it is in lovely condition, just a little unevenness but not too detrimental at all.
