We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French Provincial low tables originated in the French provinces during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, adapting aristocratic Parisian designs into practical, sturdy furnishings for regional homes. Characterised by graceful cabriole legs and subtly carved aprons, these pieces balance rural utility with refined lines.

Craftsmen typically utilised dense local hardwoods such as chestnut, oak, walnut, and fruitwoods. Chestnut was particularly valued for its strength, rich grain patterns, and resistance to wear, often finished with dark stains or natural beeswax.

Authentic pieces feature traditional joinery like hand-cut mortise and tenon joints, pegged construction, and maker initials or inventory stamps. Natural age wear around the lower legs, hand-planed top surfaces, and uneven oxidisation of wood tones also signal genuine age.

A low chestnut table works exceptionally well as a central coffee table or accent piece alongside modern upholstered sofas. Its rich patina provides warmth and textural contrast against contemporary neutral fabrics and minimalist decor.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax paste annually to nourish the wood grain. Keep the table away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent drying out, warping, or fading.
