Mashrabiya is a traditional Islamic architectural element composed of intricately turned wood pieces assembled into geometric lattice patterns. Originating in the Middle East, these screens were designed to filter direct sunlight, reduce heat, and maintain privacy while allowing breeze to flow through interior spaces.

Traditional mashrabiya screens are crafted from dense hardwoods such as teak, walnut, or cedar. The turned wooden components are joined together using precise mortise and tenon or lathe-turned interlocking joints, often assembled without metal nails to allow the wood to expand and contract naturally with atmospheric changes.
