Royal Worcester Pair of Blush Ivory Floral Vases, Pattern 1911, 1900

1900 - 1920
For Sale by Ritas Bazaar
Description

A fine pair of Royal Worcester blush ivory porcelain vases dating to 1900. The vases are of graceful amphora form with tall fluted necks, rounded bodies and pedestal feet, decorated with finely painted floral compositions and richly gilded ornament.

The warm blush ivory ground provides an elegant setting for the decoration. Sunflowers, lilies, asters and wildflowers are painted in naturalistic colours with fine gilded outlines, showing the high standard of Royal Worcester hand-painted work at the turn of the twentieth century. The asymmetrical compositions reflect the influence of Art Nouveau and add movement and individuality to the pair.

Particularly attractive are the gilt faun-mask handles with elongated scrolling terminals. Fluted ornament to the neck and base, together with gilded leaf decoration around the lower body, adds further refinement to the design. Both vases retain their original Royal Worcester factory marks, including Registration No. 28655, Pattern No. 1911 and a Worcester date code corresponding to 1900. Matching pairs such as this, retaining their original gilding, complete factory marks and excellent unrestored condition, remain especially sought after by collectors.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Blush ivory porcelain is a signature ceramic body developed in the late 19th century by the Royal Worcester Porcelain Company. It features a soft, satin-finish ivory ground with subtle pink or apricot shading, often decorated with hand-painted flora and parcel gilding.

These vessels were crafted using bone china or fine earthenware bodies finished with a specialized matt glaze. Decorators applied hand-painted enamels for the floral motifs alongside applied gold leaf or liquid gold for raised gilded handles and trim.

Authentic pieces carry a printed printed factory mark, typically in green, brown, or mauve ink, depicting a crown and circular crest with dots or letter codes indicating the exact year of manufacture. Mould numbers, such as pattern 1911, and painter marks are frequently stamped or hand-written on the underside.

Positioning a symmetrical pair of porcelain urns on a contemporary fireplace mantelpiece or minimalist sideboard creates visual contrast. Pairing ornate late Victorian ceramics with simplified wooden or stone surfaces allows the detailed hand-painted artwork to serve as a focal point.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft-bristled brush or clean microfibre cloth to remove surface residue. Avoid submersing the item in water or using abrasive chemical cleaners, as moisture and friction can strip away the delicate hand-painted enamel and gilding.
