Attributed to Isaac Findler
Isaac Findler was born in 1809 and lived in Cheddleton near Leek, Staffordshire. Although professionally employed as a painter and decorator, he became known locally for producing landscapes and religious subjects.
A related painting of Daniel in the Lions' Den executed by Findler in 1846 is held by Staffordshire County Museum, demonstrating the artist's long-standing interest in this biblical narrative. The present work, dated 1881, would represent a mature example from the latter part of his career.
