We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Popularised in the late 19th century, Aesthetic Movement bamboo furniture was heavily influenced by Japonisme and Asian design principles. European manufacturers crafted lightweight yet functional pieces using scorched or tortoiseshell-patterned bamboo, often combining it with woven rattan, lacquer, or tile inserts.

These hall stands were primarily constructed from hollow bamboo canes that were heat-bent and joined with wooden dowels or metal pins. Decorative accents typically included woven rattan panels, silvered glass mirrors, and cast iron or brass hooks and drip pans.

Authentic period pieces exhibit natural variations in cane diameter, hand-cut dowel joinery, and natural scorching patterns created by flame-charring the bamboo. Look for cast metal coat hooks appropriate to the era and original mirrored glass showing mild age-related desilverisation.

Position the piece in a narrow hallway or entryway to maximize floor space while creating a focal point. Combine the warm wood tones with contemporary neutral paint schemes, ceramic umbrella vessels, or botanical arrangements to complement the organic material.

Keep bamboo furniture away from direct heat sources and radiator units to prevent the canes from drying out and cracking. Dust regularly with a soft dry brush, and clean woven rattan using a slightly damp cloth, taking care not to oversaturate the natural fibres.
