Set of 6 Antique English Georgian Pewter Plates ~ William Wright

18th century
For Sale by Antiques4EU
Description

A good set of six Late 18th Century Antique English Georgian reeded edge Pewter Plates, each bearing the touch of William Wright of Little Minories, London, { Cotterell O.P. 5310 }, together with a fine set of hallmarks. Wright was working in the mid to late 18th Century, however, each of these plates is also stamped ENGLAND, which normally would indicate a post 1892 date, thus raising a question mark over their true age. After careful consideration, we have concluded that this latter mark is clearly a later addition and have thus catalogued the plates accordingly.

Height ~ 25.50 cm. / 10.03 inches ~ Width ~ 25.50 cm. / 10.03 inches ~ Depth ~ 1.50 cm. / 0.59 inches ~ Year ~ Circa 1775

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian pewter tableware is typically defined by simple, functional forms, broad flat rims, and heavy cast construction produced in Britain during the 18th and early 19th centuries.

Traditional pewter was an alloy composed primarily of tin, blended with copper, lead, or antimony to increase hardness and durability.

Genuine period pieces often display touchmarks stamped into the rim or reverse, surface patination, subtle knife score marks from historical use, and cast construction lines.

Pewter plates can be displayed vertically along a dresser rack, mounted on a dining room feature wall, or laid out as decorative trays on sideboards and console tables.

Wash gently in warm soapy water using a soft cloth, avoiding abrasive polishes or chemical cleaners that can strip the natural aged oxidisation and patina.
