Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Seventeenth-century Dutch portraiture flourished during the Dutch Golden Age, characterised by realistic depictions of middle-class citizens, musicians, and genre subjects. Artists such as Frans Hals introduced loose, expressive brushwork that captured dynamic human expressions.

Artists traditionally painted using oil pigments ground from natural minerals and organic materials mixed with linseed oil, executed primarily on linen canvas or wooden panels, and finished with varnish.

Authentic period pieces exhibit age-appropriate surface craquelure, historical stretcher bars, hand-forged hardware, and natural pigment degradation visible under ultraviolet light.

A classic portrait creates a focal point when hung above a sideboard or mantelpiece, particularly against dark painted walls or integrated into an eclectic gallery wall.

Keep oil paintings away from direct sunlight, extreme temperature changes, and high humidity, dusting the frame lightly with a soft brush rather than liquid cleaners.
