Description

A decorative French polychrome toleware floral four light antique chandelier, the leaf scrolling arms with sectional leaf bobeche drip pans, issuing from an ornate leaf centre with polychrome flower heads and having the original chain and ceiling rose. Lovely original patination and very decorative. Fully rewired and PAT tested. All our chandeliers come with bulbs and ceiling fixings.

Toleware refers to decorative objects and lighting fixtures crafted from japanned or hand-painted sheet iron, a technique that gained widespread popularity across France and Europe from the eighteenth century onwards.

These fixtures were constructed using hand-cut, shaped sheet iron or steel, coated with enamel or lacquer pigments for colour, and assembled with iron or brass structural elements and candle sleeves.
