Bushells Antiques has dated these Cased Silver Apostle Spoons to the 1900s.
Each spoon features a smooth oval bowl connecting to a spirally twisted wire stem. The handles are topped with detailed, cast Apostle finials representing a standing robed figure. The accompanying sugar tongs feature matching twisted arms that terminate in flat, oval spoon-shaped grippers. The reverse of each spoon bowl is stamped with a clear row of four hallmarks, including the D&A maker's mark, the Birmingham anchor town mark, the lion passant purity mark, and the lowercase letter d date code. The set is secured within a rectangular wooden case bound in a black textured faux-leather exterior. The padded interior lid is lined with gathered magenta satin fabric, and the base tray features molded dark magenta velvet with individual recessed slots for each utensil.Each spoon measures approximately 11.5 centimeters in total length, and the combined weight of the 13 silver items is approximately 168 grams excluding the weight of the case total combined approximate weight 519 grams.
