Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Apostle spoons are silver spoons that feature a figure of an apostle or saint at the end of the handle. Popular from the 15th century through the early 20th century, complete sets traditionally featured twelve apostles, often presented as christening gifts or commemorative presentation sets.

Spoon sets from this era were typically cast or struck from hallmarked sterling silver (925 purity) with twisted stems and cast figural finials. Presentation sets were housed in fitted wooden or leatherette cases lined with velvet and silk to protect the metal from tarnishing and scratches.

Authentic British silver items feature a complete set of hallmarks stamped into the metal, including the lion passant for sterling purity, an assay office symbol (such as an anchor for Birmingham), a date letter, and a makers mark.

Cased silver sets can be displayed open on a dining room sideboard, inside a glazed cabinet, or integrated into a vignette on a drinks trolley to add historical texture to modern entertaining spaces.

Store silver flatware in its original felt or velvet case to minimise exposure to air and sulphur. Clean gently using a soft cotton cloth and specialized silver polish, avoiding abrasive cleaners that can wear down delicate relief details or cast finials.
