Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Bentwood furniture was pioneeringly manufactured in the mid-nineteenth century using steam-bending processes to shape solid timber into fluid curves. By the early twentieth century, manufacturers integrated metal revolving mechanisms into bentwood frames to create functional, lightweight desk seating for commercial and domestic studies.

Bentwood furniture traditionally utilises solid beechwood, as its long fibres bend reliably without splitting when steamed under pressure. The swivel components typically consist of a cast iron or steel threaded central column set within a timber pedestal.

Authentic pieces often feature paper manufacturer labels or hot-stamped maker marks beneath the seat frame, such as those from Thonet or Kohn. Additional indicators include characteristic steam-bent joinery, hand-fitted threaded screws, and smooth operational wear on the central height adjustment mechanism.

These chairs function effectively alongside contemporary minimalism or traditional study settings. Position a pair at a shared double workstation or use a single unit with an oak writing desk to introduce warm timber tones and historical character to a home office.

Keep bentwood furniture away from direct heat sources and high humidity to prevent the timber from warping or splitting. Regularly apply a high-grade beeswax polish along the grain and periodically oil the iron height-adjustment mechanism to ensure fluid rotation.
