Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A sugar caster is a specialized silver vessel designed to sprinkle granulated or powdered sugar over foodstuffs. Popularised during the seventeenth century, casters evolved alongside tea and dessert dining rituals, becoming standard elements of formal silver service by the early twentieth century.

Authentic casters are constructed from solid sterling silver or silver plate. The body is formed via spinning or raised metalworking, while the detachable lid features hand-pierced motifs to allow even distribution of sugar, often topped with a turned finial.

Authentic British silver bears stamped hallmarks usually consisting of four or five official marks: the maker mark, the lion passante indicating sterling purity, the assay office mark, and a date letter corresponding to the exact year of manufacture.

An antique silver caster can be displayed on a sideboard, drinks trolley, or kitchen shelving alongside glass or ceramic tableware. It provides a historical contrast when incorporated into contemporary table arrangements or breakfast settings.

Clean sterling silver using specialized, non-abrasive silver foam or polishes and soft cotton cloths. Avoid dipping items with internal residue in harsh liquid cleaners, and store in anti-tarnish fabric sleeves away from high humidity to limit oxidisation.
