Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian rocking horses gained widespread popularity during the 19th century in Britain, transitioning from utilitarian training tools for riding into prized nursery features. Prominent English makers like G. J. Lines crafted detailed wooden horses, reflecting the eras focus on craftsmanship and decorative toy design.

19th-century rocking horses were typically constructed from hollowed timber blocks, coated in gesso and hand-painted. Accessories included genuine leather saddles, iron hardware, and real horsehair for the manes and tails.

Authentic G. J. Lines horses are recognised by their carved muscle definition, distinct head shape with inset glass eyes, carved ears, and sturdy timber construction. Many featured specific tack designs, metal studs, and branded maker details on the stand or underside.

Displaying a mounted wooden horse on a pedestal, console table, or sideboard allows it to serve as a sculptural focal point. Placing historical folk art against a neutral or contemporary backdrop highlights its texture and silhouette.

Preserve antique painted wood by keeping it in a climate-controlled environment away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber movement and paint flaking. Dust lightly using a soft, dry brush without applying harsh chemicals or moisture.
