Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A coquilla nut scent bottle is a small container designed to hold liquid perfume, oils, or smelling salts, crafted from the hard, dense seed shell of the South American Attalea funifera palm. Popular during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, these items were highly favoured by carvers due to the shells close grain and ability to take fine relief details.

Coquilla nut objects are fashioned primarily from the dried palm seed shell, which resembles dark timber or polished palm wood. They are frequently fitted with turned bone, ivory, or silver stoppers, threaded collars, and base plugs to seal the vessel tightly.

Authentic 19th-century coquilla nut carvings feature deep, hand-cut relief work, subtle variations in natural grain, and a smooth patina developed over time. Genuine pieces often display faint growth lines, micro-pitting typical of the palm nut, and hand-turned threading on the fittings.

Small carved curiosities function well when displayed inside glass cloches, placed atop decorative trays, or arranged within a glass-fronted cabinet of curiosities. Grouping them alongside period books and leather-bound items highlights their texture and detailed craftsmanship.

Coquilla nut items should be kept in a stable environment away from direct sunlight, extreme humidity, and direct heat sources, which can cause cracking. Dust softly with a dry, lint-free microfibre cloth and avoid using chemical cleaners or water.
