Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Claret jugs were designed during the 19th and early 20th centuries specifically to serve red Bordeaux wine, known in Britain as claret. The combination of a glass vessel and metal mount allowed for aeration and controlled pouring at the dining table.

Traditional claret jugs combine blown, moulded, or cut glass vessels with metal mounts made from sterling silver, silver plate, or Britannia metal. The metal collars, spouts, lids, and handles were cast or stamped and fitted directly to the glass body.

Authentic Art Nouveau pieces feature organic, fluid lines, whiplash curves, and botanical motifs such as flowers, leaves, or sinuous tendrils. Look for period makers marks, electroplate stamps, or registration numbers on the metal collar or handle base.

An antique claret jug serves as a decorative accent on a dining room sideboard, drinks trolley, or open bar cabinet. It can be displayed individually or grouped alongside contemporary glassware to create visual contrast.

Wash the interior glass gently with warm water and mild soap, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners or thermal shocks. Clean the silver-plated collar and handle using a soft cloth and non-abrasive silver polish to prevent wear to the plated layer.
