A charming Victorian Tunbridge Ware work box dating from the mid to late 19th century, crafted in walnut with distinctive geometric mosaic banding typical of the celebrated Tunbridge Wells workshops. The rectangular box is decorated with intricate parquetry borders to the lid and front, centred by a matching mosaic cartouche and retaining its original escutcheon to the front (no key).The warm figured wood displays attractive grain and rich colour, complemented by the finely executed Tunbridge ware inlay featuring repeating star and geometric motifs. The box has a pleasingly simple, elegant form and would originally have been used for sewing implements, needlework accessories, or personal keepsakes.
