Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Heriz carpets originate from the Heris region in North West Iran, situated near Mount Sabalan. They are characterised by bold, geometric interpretations of classic Persian floral motifs, featuring prominent central star medallions and angular corner spandrels. Woven historically by village weavers, these carpets are distinguished from urban workshop rugs by their stylized, rectilinear designs.

Heriz carpets are constructed using a hand-knotted technique with local wool pile knotted onto a durable cotton warp and weft foundation. The local high-altitude wool contains high copper content, which contributes to fibre resilience and dye absorption. Natural vegetable dyes, derived from madder root, indigo, and oak gall, are traditionally used to achieve rich terracotta, navy, and ivory shades.

Authentic Heriz carpets feature a asymmetrical Turkish (Ghiordes) knot tied on a heavy cotton foundation, resulting in a thick, coarse weave with low knot density relative to fine city rugs. Visual indicators include angular, rectilinear outlines instead of fluid curves, a prominent central medallion, broad multi-band borders, and natural abrash colour variations within the field.

Heriz carpets act as foundational anchors in both traditional and contemporary interiors. The strong geometric patterns and deep terracotta and navy tones balance neutral minimalist rooms, complement dark wood panelling, or contrast modern architectural furniture. They are frequently placed in dining rooms, drawing rooms, or central halls where large floor surfaces display the complete central medallion.

Regular maintenance requires gentle vacuuming without a rotating beater bar to prevent pile damage. Spills should be blotted immediately with a clean, dry cotton cloth rather than rubbed. Professional hand-washing by a specialist rug conservator is recommended every few years, alongside periodic rotation to ensure even wear and light exposure.
