Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the Edo and Meiji periods in Japan, artisans utilised stag horn and deer antler as durable materials for intricate carvings such as netsuke, pipe cases, and umbrella or parasol handles. These carvings often depicted naturalistic motifs, folklore figures, or animals, showcasing meticulous craftsmanship.

Craftsmen selected solid sections of deer antler, using hand chisels, knives, and files to carve detailed figures into the natural curve of the material. Inlaid materials, such as horn or glass, were frequently used for details like eyes, followed by polishing and natural staining.

Authentic pieces display natural marrow porosity on cut edges, hand-carved tool marks, and organic patination acquired over time. Inlaid eyes and fine detail work around animal fur or foliage are also characteristic of period Japanese artisan craftsmanship.

Small carved handles can be mounted on custom display stands as sculptural objects on a bookshelf, desk, or side table. They can also be incorporated into bespoke walking canes or curated cabinet of curiosities displays.

Keep stag horn items in a climate-controlled environment away from direct sunlight, excess heat, or high humidity to prevent cracking. Clean gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and avoid using harsh chemicals or water.
