Description

19th century mahogany artist’s studio easel of traditional A-frame form, constructed in solid mahogany and retaining a rich deep patina developed through years of practical use. The easel features an adjustable central support with ratchet mechanism allowing paintings of varying sizes to be displayed securely, together with a wide lower ledge designed to accommodate canvases, drawing boards or framed works.

Of particularly appealing character are the numerous traces of historic paint splashes and studio marks visible throughout the frame, testament to its working life within an artist’s studio. The sturdy construction is strengthened by rear supports and cross-bracing, providing excellent stability whilst maintaining an elegant and functional appearance.
