Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the late nineteenth century, particularly within the Aesthetic Movement, design elements derived from nature and classical mythology became widely popular. Serpents were frequently integrated into metalwork designs, representing wisdom, eternity, and exoticism.

Serving spoons from this period were typically made with a base metal core, such as nickel silver or brass, electroplated with a surface layer of fine silver. Certain areas, such as the bowls or borders, were sometimes parcel-gilded with gold accents.

Authentic pieces usually display distinct electroplate makers marks or registration stamps near the handle joint, alongside characteristic casting seams, hand-engraved patterns, and natural wear patterns consistent with age.

Highly decorative antique serving utensils can be used as accent pieces on a dining table or displayed alongside contemporary glass and tableware to add historic contrast and visual interest to table arrangements.

Silver-plated items should be cleaned gently using specialized silver polish and soft cloths to avoid removing the thin outer layer of silver or gold gilding. Abrasive cleaners and dishwashers should be avoided to prevent tarnish and pitting.
