Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A hook end basting spoon is a large 18th-century serving utensil designed with a turned curve at the handle end. This practical design feature prevented the spoon from slipping fully into deep roasting dishes or large serving bowls.

These spoons were hand-forged from solid sterling silver, conforming to the standard purity of 925 parts per thousand. The pieces were struck from silver ingots and shaped using specialized hammers before being hand-finished and hallmarked.

Authentic Irish Georgian silver features specific assay marks, including the Hibernia mark, the crowned harp, a date letter, and makers initials registered with the Dublin Assay Office. The weight, hand-hammered density, and period-accurate engraving style also indicate authenticity.

An antique silver basting spoon can be presented inside a glass display cabinet, mounted within a shadow box frame on a dining room wall, or laid flat on a sideboard as part of a curated dining table vignette.

Clean sterling silver using a soft cotton cloth and specialized silver polish to remove oxidisation without scratching the metal. Store pieces in anti-tarnish cloth bags or lined cases away from direct humidity and harsh atmospheric pollutants.
