Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian mahogany side cabinet is a compact wooden storage piece produced during the reign of Queen Victoria, designed to fit against walls in dining rooms, living rooms, or hallways. These pieces often served specialised functions, such as storing sheet music, display items, or general household accoutrements.

Late Victorian cabinets were typically constructed using solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over pine or oak frames. Additional features frequently included brass fittings, hand-cut glass, mirror insets, and carved timber panels.

Authentic late Victorian cabinets display evidence of period craftsmanship, such as hand-cut dovetail joints, original brass hardware with natural surface oxidisation, and age-consistent wear on timber edges. The interior structure usually shows secondary woods like pine or oak alongside original lock mechanisms.

A narrow mahogany cabinet works effectively in tight spaces such as hallways, alcoves, or entryways to add vertical interest and functional storage. Pairing dark timber tone with neutral wall surfaces creates balanced visual contrast within modern interiors.

Mahogany surfaces should be dusted regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and treated periodically with natural beeswax polish to maintain wood hydration. Glass and mirror elements should be cleaned using a mild cleaner applied directly to a soft cloth to avoid dampening adjacent wood finishes.
