18th century George III period satinwood writing table (or CHEVERET) in the manner of Gillows of Lancaster & London.In two parts, the removable superstructure with carrying handle and three-quarter gallery above two short and one long drawer fitted with the original brass knobs. The Cheveret is highly-figured with West Indian satinwood and crossbanded in purpleheart.The upper section is deliberately made with its large carrying handle and sits on a veneered table base that conceals a fitted drawer, that retains its original gilt brass ring pulled handles. The frieze drawer opens to reveal a pen and ink compartment with an adjustable sliding mahogany writing surface above storage to the underside.The table base is free standing with satinwood and purple heart decoration to all four sides and raised on finely veneered elegant tapering legs.
