Early George III Two Door Library Mahogany Bookcase

Description

Mid 18th century two door Georgian bookcase.

The shallow convetto cornice surmounted above two slender mahogany framed doors which are fitted with gothic astragal glazing bars and open to reveal four original shelves. The full width shelves are mahogany fronted with adjustable slats for varying heights.

The glazed section with straight grained mahogany sides sits above a low waisted cupboard base, that sits within the moulding that sits on the base top.

The cupboard base height is just under three feet and is well drawn in proportion to the overall scale, with the figured mahogany inset panelled doors neatly trimmed with inner mouldings. The cupboard base opens to reveal a fitted single adjustable shelf with the bookcase raised on a slender thumbnail moulded plinth base.
