Antique Victorian Gothic Revival Oak Prie-dieu C.1890

Description

A striking Victorian prie-dieu, finely constructed in solid oak in the Gothic Revival style, the front elevation centred by a winged angel over a pierced Gothic tracery panel with arches and deeply carved foliate decoration.

The gently sloping top rest is formed from a single solid oak plank, set over an open recess with an integrated Bible shelf below, all supported by heavily chamfered uprights, all set on a thick moulded base with kneeling platform.

A fine example of Victorian devotional furniture, with a distinctly architectural presence. Originally intended for private devotion, it now works equally well as a statement piece in a library, study or living space.

Very good antique condition with some surface wear consistent with age. Structurally solid, clean and ready to place.
