Description

An authentic early 20th century Gurkha kukri, retaining its original leather-covered wooden scabbard together with both accompanying utility knives. The kukri features a traditional broad curved blade with characteristic cho notch, horn grip with brass mounts and decorative rivets. The original leather scabbard shows expected wear and age-related patina, while the blade retains good form with surface wear consistent with age and use.

A desirable example of the iconic Nepalese fighting and utility knife, complete with its original karda and chakmak, making it an increasingly difficult set to find intact.

The kukri, or khukuri, is a distinctive inwardly curved blade originating in Nepal. It serves both as a versatile utility tool in the Himalayan region and as the traditional sidearm for Gurkha military forces.

A traditional kukri features a forged high-carbon steel blade, a handle carved from water buffalo horn or hardwood, and brass or iron fittings. The scabbard is constructed from wood wrapped in animal hide or leather.

Period military kukris often display specific blade geometry, spinal thickness, and grip constructions such as pinned or rat-tail tangs. They may also retain two smaller companion knives, the karda and chakmak, stored in pockets behind the main sheath.
