Fascinating example, with an expressive carved appearance

Displays a desirable aged patina and in good antique order

Select walnut presents fine grain interest and warm caramel hues

Waxed leather stool finished in a deep navy blue with a cross hatch pattern

Octagonal cushion set upon a riser, with a counter-clockwise action adding 11cm to the height

Delightfully broad barley twist support column houses the brass riser when lowered

Collar with scroll motif unites the column with the highly distinctive octagonal base

An octet of pad feet, each adorned with a relief carved cabochon

Gothic overtones redolent of ecclesiastic furniture popularised by Augustus Pugin (1812 - 1852)

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Produced during the reign of King William IV between 1830 and 1837, these stools bridge Regency and Victorian design, often featuring substantial turned or spiral twist central columns, heavy octagonal bases, and revolving height-adjustment mechanisms.

Craftsmen constructed these pieces using dense cabinet woods such as walnut, mahogany, or rosewood, combined with internal threaded wooden or iron spindles for height adjustment and hand-carved decorative motifs along the base.

Authentic period examples feature hand-cut joinery, integrated screw threads beneath the seat frame, genuine surface patination across the timber, and hand-carved detailing consistent with early 19th-century motifs.

Beyond seating at an instrument, these compact furniture items function as occasional side seating, footrests, or plant stands in living rooms, hallways, and study spaces.

Dust the timber regular using a dry microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish annually along the grain; ensure the stool is positioned away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber movement.
