Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Plaster sculptures depicting lions gained popularity during the 18th and 19th centuries, largely influenced by Classical antiquity and Grand Tour souvenirs. These items were produced as decorative accents, architectural maquettes, or artistic models showcasing traditional sculptural motifs.

Plaster of Paris was poured into multi-piece plaster or flexible moulds, frequently reinforced internally with iron wire or natural plant fibres for stability. Once set, the outer surface was chased by hand and sometimes coated with wax or gesso to imitate marble or carved stone.

Authentic period pieces exhibit natural surface patination, fine seam lines from historic moulding techniques, and minor surface wear revealing bare plaster under aged outer layers. Weight, hand-tooling marks, and slight surface irregularities distinguish original casts from modern synthetic reproductions.

A plaster sculpture creates visual interest when positioned on a mantelpiece, bookshelf, or console table alongside framed artwork and metallic accents. The neutral plaster tone creates contrasting texture against dark wood finishes or saturated paint schemes.

Dust the item regularly using a soft, dry brush or microfibre cloth, avoiding water and liquid chemical cleansers that can dissolve soluble plaster or compromise original patination. Store the piece in a dry indoor environment with stable humidity levels.
