1920 - 1940
Description

A superbly modelled decent sized solid sterling silver animal figure. It is hallmarked with the 830 silver standard mark. I would date it to c1920-1940 most likely German. Its been beautifully modelled being finely cast in the form of a Woodcock bird. It is in super condition being free from dings splits and repairs. It measures approx. 3.75 inches (9.6cm) long beak to tail by 1.5 inches (3.8cm) wide by 2.25 inches (5.8cm) tall and weighs 68 grams (all silver not weighted). A very well designed high quality example.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Cast silver bird models became prominent in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as table centrepieces, napkin holders, and desk ornaments that celebrated field sports and natural history.

An 830 mark specifies that the piece is composed of 83% pure silver, a standard grade widely used in Scandinavian and Continental European silversmithing.

Authentic pieces feature crisp hand-chasing on detailed areas such as plumage, distinct hallmarking or numerical fineness stamps, and a balanced solid weight.

Place the item on a dark wood bookshelf, a mantelpiece, or alongside vintage leather-bound volumes to contrast metallic highlights against textured surfaces.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a non-abrasive silver polish sparingly using a soft toothbrush to clean crevices without removing detailed surface chasing.
