A very elegant early 20th-century silver-plated bottle holder by the respected Edinburgh firm Brook & Son.
The holder is of attractive basket form, with a decorative pierced gallery, circular foot and tall arched carrying handle. It is a particularly practical and handsome piece, suitable for serving wine at the table or for display in a dining room or drinks cabinet.
The underside is marked Brook & Son, 87 George Street, Edinburgh, with pattern number 20278. Brook & Son were a well-known Edinburgh firm of jewellers, silversmiths and retailers, established in 1891.
