A fabulous quality box, very heavy and made by the top-notch silversmith, Mappin and Webb.
The box stands on four beautifully cast feet. The domed top is fitted with a fabulous piece of period tortosieshell with a glossy patina showcasing the pattern and colouring of the pretty shell, framed by a raised decorative border.
The lid lifts to reveal the original fitted interior in cream coloured velvet and silk.
Hallmarked for Birmingham 1919, the box remains in superb condition measuring 6'' x 3 3/4'' x 2 1/4'' tall. The box has a weighted base creating a substantial box weighing 479.2 Grams / 15.41 Troy Ounces.
