Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Spanish Baroque painting from the 17th century is recognized for its dramatic realism, intense religious iconography, and strong contrast between light and shadow, often referred to as tenebrism. Artists frequently focused on devotional subjects rendered with a high degree of emotional gravity.

Paintings from this period were typically executed in oil pigments on stretched linen or canvas panels. Frames were frequently hand-carved from local timber, gilded with gold leaf over a bole base, and sometimes incorporated reflective glass or mirror inserts into lattice mouldings.

Authentic period works display natural age craquelure across the paint surface, historic canvas lining or stretcher marks, and authentic oxidisation on the reverse. Period giltwood frames show hand-carved tool marks, red or grey bole beneath worn gilding, and uneven glass in mirrors.

A Baroque oil painting can serve as a focal point when placed against neutral or deeply painted walls in a contemporary space. Pairing classical artwork with clean-lined modern furniture creates a balanced, curated aesthetic that highlights the historical texture of the frame and canvas.

Oil paintings should be kept in a climate-controlled environment away from direct sunlight, excess humidity, and direct heat sources. Cleaning should only be performed by a professional art conservator, while frames should be lightly dusted using a soft dry brush to prevent damage to delicate gilding.
