An Unusual George II Mahogany Telescopic Tripod Table/ Candlestand, C.1740

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Jeckyll & Co

This Georgian table has a rare mechanism that enables the top to be raised on a steel rachet. The purpose was both a side table, and in modern parlance, a lamp table, supporting candles and lowering and elavating where the light was required, either for reading or to illuminate the room.

The dimensions published are with the height at its lowest level.

The ultilitarian square shaft and steel fittings give the table the look and functionality of a piece of furniture that may have been taken on a military campaign.

Condition: Structurally sound; surface repolished. There is a pin to hold the position of the table when raised, but there would also have been a spring loaded button which is no longer present. There is a old repair to the raised edge of the table and one leg has a historic brass repair, see images.
