ABOUT
Alexandre Kéléty (born in Budapest in 1878 and died in 1940) was a Hungarian sculptor. The date of birth of Alexandre Kéléty is not mentioned in the literature. He was active as an artist, sculptor, painter and engraver from 1918 until his death in 1940. Kéléty married Hélčne Grün Kéléty, daughter of the French naturalized Russian painter Maurice Grün. At the end... of the First World War , he emigrated to France, where he became a pupil of the Hungarian painter and engraver Imre Karoly Simay in Toulouse. He then studies in Paris. In his works, he often represents animals as well as the theme of childhood. He also produces chryselephantine busts and statuettes depicting dancers and mythological figures in art deco style . His favourite materials were bronze, ivory, marble and ceramics.
The Art Deco Period: although Art Deco derives its name from the great 1925 Paris Exhibition, ‘L’Exposition Internatlionale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes’, the term is now generally applied to the typical artistic productions of the 1920’s and 1930’s. It might best be characterised as an attempt to unite arts with industry, embracing the machine age and repudiating the old antithesis of ‘Fine’ and ‘Industrial’ art. The sources of the Art Deco movement include Egyptian and Mayan Art, Cubisim, Fauvism and Expressionism, heavily influencing the chief force underlying all Art Deco with the emphasis upon geometric patterns.
