Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A coaching table is a portable, folding table originally designed in the 18th and 19th centuries to accompany travelers on horse-drawn coach journeys. They were constructed to fold flat for easy storage in or on coaches and unfolded to provide a dining or writing surface during stops.

Coaching tables were predominantly constructed from durable hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, or walnut, selected for their stability and grain quality. The folding mechanisms typically utilized brass hinges and iron or wooden pivot pins to allow smooth operation.

Authentic period coaching tables display hand-cut joinery, period-correct brass hardware, and authentic wear around the folding hinges and pivot points. The undersides often show original tool marks, and the wood displays a natural aged patina and slight shrinkage consistent with historic timber.

A coaching table serves as a versatile occasional table placed beside a sofa, armchair, or within an entryway. Its compact footprint and folding capability make it suitable for smaller spaces, functioning as a lamp stand, drinks table, or display surface.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year along the wood grain. Avoid placing the table near direct heat sources or in direct sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage, warping, and finish fading.
